The Prairie Cottage Sheringham » Norfolk » Holt

Holt is a wonderful Georgian town with plenty of specialist shops and galleries to explore in the town centre and tucked away in attractive yards and side streets.

On the 1st of May 1708 Holt was devastated by a fire which destroyed most of the medieval town in a matter of hours. The subsequent rebuild was largely in the Georgian style of the day though the Norman church, which was also badly damaged, was repaired.

You can get to Holt from Sheringham via the Poppy Line; this takes passengers as far as the east of the town with passengers embarking onto a Routemaster bus for the remainder of the journey into the town centre.

There are plenty of places to stop for refreshments in Holt. A notable café is Byfords; one of the oldest buildings in Holt and a great place to grab a coffee and watch the world pass by.

The town has been host to a summer arts festival since 2009. The event runs for a week and includes music, literature, theatre, cinema and art.

To the south of the town is Holt Country Park with around 100 acres of woodland to explore. The park contains way marked routes suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
